The following article “Xi Jinping transcends his predecessors: expert” printed in

Central News Agency did not get my approval for the simplified translation. Some of the English words are not my choices either. For example, the word “transcend” should be “surpass”, and etc.

None the less, the Taipei Times piece catches the gist of my observation. For that reason, I am posting it on my blog for your reference.

Meeting Dalai Lama at his residence was a precious opportunity.  I posed three questions to him, which prompted his enthusiastic and enlightening comments recorded at the time, transcribed later, and presented below.

The three questions were respectively on the future of Buddhism in China, on certain mysterious phenomena of incense ash resisting falling while forming patterns, and on karma from violent actions initiated by kindness.

Get ready for disaster, but be optimistic for 2012

二○一二　做最壞的準備　最好的期待

The much talked about 2012 has arrived. Inspired by the Mayan prophecy that Armageddon will arrive on Dec. 21, a rush of movies, books, and theories has triggered widespread concern among people around the world. Nevertheless, former vice defense minister Lin Chong-Pin offers new perspectives in his new book titled Global Shift: Exploring the Roots of Rising Disasters published last Friday. Lin says that rather than taking the view that the end of the world is here or ignoring that such a day will ever come, it would be more practical to focus on disaster preparedness and be optimistic for the future.

議論多時的二○一二年，已經到來。坊間充斥著以馬雅預言十二月二十一日為世界末日為背景的電影、書籍，以及各式的論述，已引起世界各地民眾的擔憂。儘管如此，前國防部副部長林中斌在上週五出版的新書《大災變：你必須面對的全球失序真相》中提出新觀點，與其對災變抱持「末日即將到來」或「否定末日說」，不如更務實做好防災準備，樂觀前瞻。
